Wellness App

The Challenge

The challenge was to create an app for the Daily Health Conference that enables people to lead healthier lives through the use of technology. By definition, wellness for them is “an active process through which people become aware of and make choices for a more successful life.

The Client

The Daily Health Conference is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health and wellness through impactful public talks, participatory workshops, and professional training all over the world. The Daily Health Conference began in 1983 in San Francisco as a conference where Medicine, Health, and Wellness converged, and it now covers nearly all health-related topics — from nutrition to sleep to addiction — in over 100 languages.

Reflection

For this challenge we decided to focus on the pregnancy. Given our personal and professional experiences with the subject, we already had an idea of the market situation. We knew that obtaining nutritional information during pregnancy was not an easy task, so we took the assumption as a challenge.

Concretely for this project, we wanted to focus on the niche of “what a pregnant woman can eat or not during pregnancy”.

Research

During our research, we were able to observe the existence of myths concerning pregnancy nutrition, and how a balanced diet for the mother during pregnancy is essential for the health and development of the child.

And how it can be difficult to have a consensus about what a pregnant woman can eat or not during pregnancy.

After that, we continue with a business competitors analysis checking 6 direct and un-direct competitors pregnancy app to have a general idea and to know what features are missed or not.

Surveys

Following, We proceeded to obtain more information by conducting Surveys.

Regarding the surveys: our target was 100 people, of which 93 responded.

About if they have questions about Nutrition during pregnancy, 62 of 93 answered YES.

About Which kind of information they need during pregancy, 61 of 93 answered to need a Nutritional info during pregnancy.

Interviews

We interviewed 5 young moms or pregnant women.

Analyzing all our findings, we can say that:

  • Internet is the most used search source.

  • Pregnant women use pregnancy apps.

  • The most used app is Pregnancy+

The main pain points found it were:

  • Asking questions about nutrition throughout pregnancy

  • Don’t know what to eat or not to eat.

  • Don’t have easy access to nutritional information.

  • Don’t have a consensus and reliables informations about nutrition

Persona

With our research, we were able to create a user persona: Monica is an expecting mother, she want a healthy pregnancy and receive good advices about nutrition.

Journey map

Here is her journey map,
she’s hungry but she doesn’t know what she can eat.
So, she check on internet, with her doctor to find advices about food
but informations are not reliables.

Here we can spot the design opportunity.

Problem statement

With this informations we were able to define the problem statement.

Value proposition

With our product we will:
In general:
Facilitate access to all the necessary information during pregnancy
Centralize this information (nutrition, sports, meditation, etc) in an app
Concretely:
Facilitate access to Nutritional Information during pregnancy
Provide concensus in the Nutritional information
Provide reliable Nutritional information

Mid-Fi prototype

After our concept was validated, we moved to the Mid-Fi screens which was based of our user flow.

We had the prototype tested, in particular the usability test and the design critics, we received some improvements.

Moodboard

Before moving on to high fidelity prototyping, we would like to present our design inspiration, based on bright colors blue, purple and pink with a dark blue to break contrast.

Name & Logo

For the name of the app, we wanted to make a play on words, matching with a logo that can be seen the shape of a woman and a baby in her belly, both forming a heart. For the colors we used the gradient of the main colors blue, purple and pink.

Hi-Fi Prototype

Once we decided the basis of the design, we proceeded to the realization of the Hi-Fi prototype, for the success of the project, we had a few deliverables:

interactive hi-fi screens, micro-interactions, dashboard, GRPD screen, multi-state screens, responsive screens, other device screen.

We made a Usability test with 5 people and a Desirability test with 5 people. We can see some of the feedback:

Final prototype

Conclusion

As you can see, our application aims to be the reference application for pregnant women and new mothers by centralizing all useful information during pregnancy, by offering activities, a blog and community section, and above all the possibilities during pregnancy to have answers to the question “what can I eat or not” with the “food” features.
